Depart from Longyearbyen, with its colorful wooden homes, and sail past white-striped mountains under a dynamic polar light. As Arctic fulmars escort your ship, the first ice appears, dancing around you. At the end of a fjord, encounter immense glaciers and wildlife like black-legged kittiwakes and Arctic terns. Aboard the ship or a Zodiac dinghy, marvel at nature’s power and fragility as you hear the soft melody of the thaw. On land, explore the tundra where moss, lichen, and rare flowers grow, and spot Svalbard reindeer, Arctic foxes, and walruses. Always on the lookout for the elusive polar bear, the team of naturalists on board will help you experience the indescribable magic of the Arctic’s mysterious fauna.

Nestled between millennial glaciers and carved mountains, Spitsbergen, known as ”the crown of Arctic Norway,” never sees night. Your ship will bring you to this fascinating archipelago, particularly the stunning Hornsund fjord, Svalbard’s southernmost fjord. At the fjord’s vast bay, eight great glaciers descend to the sea, giving way to numerous icebergs drifting along its cold, mysterious waters.

  4. Day 4 Sailing Toward The Ice Floes

Your captain will navigate to the edge of the ice floe. If weather and ice conditions permit, you can venture out in a Zodiac dinghy for a unique experience among the floating ice slabs. These blue-tinged floes, sometimes over 2 meters thick, provide a stunning backdrop, and there is a chance to see wildlife like birds, seals, and polar bears, all dependent on the ice floe.

  5. Day 5 Texas Bar, Liefdefjorden

Despite its name, Texas Bar is not in Texas nor a bar; it’s an intriguing location in the High Arctic. This former trapper’s hut, once used by hunters of Arctic foxes and polar bears, still stands with a simple interior of bunk beds and kitchen utensils. Situated at the entrance to Liefdefjorden (the ”fjord of love”), it lies peacefully among hills covered with moss, lichen, and flowers. The cliffs, vibrant with changing colors and frequented by birds, add to the panorama’s beauty. A short hike up the slopes offers a stunning view of the Monaco Glacier to the south.

  6. Day 5 Monaco Glacier, Spitsbergen

Located in the northwest of the Svalbard archipelago, the Monaco Glacier is one of Spitsbergen’s most beautiful and majestic sights. Named in honor of sailor Prince Albert I of Monaco, it stands as an impenetrable, blue-tinged jagged wall, the last glacier before reaching 80° North. Imagine the sound of the ice cracking as it breaks free and crashes into the clear water. Enhancing the magical landscape, you might spot bears and whales, who are especially fond of this area.

  7. Day 6 Raudfjorden, Spitsbergen
Raudfjorden, meaning ”red fjord,” derives its name from the color of the sandstone mountains surrounding it. Along its 20 km stretch on Spitsbergen’s west coast, dotted with shallow bays, you can admire some of the archipelago’s most stunning ice formations. At the fjord’s end, two branches lead to the magnificent Chauveaubreen and the 3 km wide Raudfjordbreen glaciers. To the east, Alicehamna Beach in Bruceneset Bay has been a landing site for trappers, fishermen, and explorers for centuries, marked by the ”Raudfjordhytta,” a cabin built by a Swedish trapper in 1927.

  8. Day 6 Smeerenburg, Spitsbergen
Located in the far northwest of the Svalbard archipelago, at the meeting point of oceanic and Arctic influences, Smeerenburg is a historic Dutch whaling colony on the southern part of Amsterdam Island. Anchored at a sandy beach amidst hills, plateaus, lakes, and lagoons, you’ll find remnants of ovens used to melt whale blubber and driftwood strewn across the area. This site is among Spitsbergen’s most significant archaeological sites, where at its peak, 200 men worked and several are buried.

  9. Day 7 Ny-Ålesund, Spitsbergen

During your cruise, explore Ny-Ålesund, a former mining town now transformed into a scientific base. Founded in 1916, it served as a launch point for numerous Arctic expeditions, including those of famed explorer Roald Amundsen. Be sure to visit the museum and its renowned post office, considered to be the world’s northernmost!

  10. Day 7 Kongsfjorden (King Bay), Spitsbergen

Near the former mining town of Ny-Ålesund lies Kings Bay, where you’ll discover Kongsfjorden, one of Svalbard’s most stunning fjords. Known as the ”fjord of the King,” it offers majestic landscapes where snow-capped mountains reflect in the water alongside beautiful icebergs, a paradise for photographers. Seals, reindeer, barnacle geese, and black guillemots inhabit this unique atmosphere. At the fjord’s end, marvel at Kongsbreen, the ”glacier of the King,” with its three distinct rocky points named after Scandinavian countries: Svea (Sweden), Dana (Denmark), and Nora (Norway).
